Microdermabrasion

What is Advanced Microdermabrasion?
It is the most natural way to evenly and safely exfoliate the skin without chemicals or a laser. The exfoliation process rejuvenates the skin by utilizing ultra-fine crystals to remove the upper layer of the epidermis. Studies have shown that microdermabrasion increases the production of collagen and elastin. The final result is firmer, more youthful looking skin over time. It works on all skin types and colors to produce subtle changes, causing no skin color change or scarring. However, it is not very effective for problems such as stretch marks, keloids (an overgrowth of scar tissue at the site of a healed skin injury) or deep acne scars. Palomar 500 laser treatments are the treatment of choice for these types of skin problems. Microdermabrasion is a non-surgical procedure, so there are little to no risks.

Can Microdermabrasion be performed on areas other than the face?
Microdermabrasion techniques are used to polish and refine the skin all over the body. Just as microdermabrasion is used on the face to diminish the appearance of lines, wrinkles, superficial scars, and discoloration, it can also be used quite effectively on the entire body surface. It can help smooth rough surfaces which occur on the elbows, knees and heels. Patients who undergo body microdermabrasion enjoy the same benefits of facial microdermabrasion treatments. At Evolution Medical Spa our Advanced Microdermabrasion is done with medical grade baking soda crystals so we can actually do treatments right around your eyes and mouth to focus on fine lines and wrinkles

Will I see a difference after the treatment?
Usually, benefits from microdermabrasion treatments are immediately apparent. However, optimal results will not be visible until all recommended treatments have been completed. The number of treatments required ranges, and the most dramatic results will typically be seen between 3-6 treatments depending on your skin condition at the start and how quickly your skin responds to the treatments. As with all of our skin procedures combining our Advanced Microderm with our PCA chemical peels and our PCA baseline skin care programs such as our Anti-Aging protocols yield unsurpassed results. You will see results after the first treatment,

How often should Microdermabrasion be performed?
Once every 7-10 days for the first 4-5 treatments. From there a maintenance schedule of once every 4-6 weeks is usually recommended.

What is the average treatment time for the face?
Use of the equipment is typically 8-10 minutes. The entire procedure including pre and post treatment protocols is 30-40 minutes.

What will the skin look like after a treatment?
Most microdermabrasion systems will leave the patient red and irritated for a period of 2-24 hours. This is typically a result of exposure to aluminum oxide.  Some patients report redness or dry feeling in their skin after a treatment, but this is temporary. Typical care following your Microdermabrasion treatment includes the use of moisturizers and sunscreens, and avoiding sun exposure for a few days. Our PCA post procedure kits are great for post procedure hydration and sun protection. However, with Baking Soda (sodium bicarbonate) you can get a treatment during lunchtime and go back to work looking and feeling refreshed. Your skin will have a vibrant healthy appearance as well as an incredibly smooth texture.
